Tea anyone

These are coming up so washed out. I will need to try shooting outdoors.
It has lost alot of color variation in the photo.

Memories of grandma everytime I see these...

Even piggy is backed into a corner...

I love this little bank. Another inspired theme. I like the color combo.

Purple and peppers

This painting I like because the peppers look so believable. The bowl needs work.
That is usually the deal breaker...

Apples and Tea

This is a small 6x6 study. The cup needs to be much darker, although the photo has washed it out alot.

In Process..

I don't like this one, but to see it in a different context helps me to see it better.
It is in process..

Some smaller pieces, studies in color.

Veggies are good subject matter.
This one is a study done from another artists work. I use her work to try and understand color, stroke edges and composition...

Catching Up

It is almost a month since I posted. I have done a bunch of paintings..
Let's see what they look like.
Some I like, some are awkward.

Another of my studies of a Carol Marine painting.
Mine is not really that blue...
I have a lot of experimenting to do in the photography department

Below is an image of hers...

I have been organizing my studio and working towards making it a wonderful space to work in.
The heater has been a great addition :)!

Jan 20 (Happy Inurguration Day!!) 2009

I worked on this one a little more. It may not be done, but also not too far off.

Jan 12th No. 2

Again.. my images are coming through very dark. Must work on that!

This is my version of another image from Carol Marine's daily blog that I copied as a study. I wrote to her yesterday morning asking how she got such vibrant colors in her work. What is amazing and thrilling, is that she wrote me back shortly after! She shared some tips and referred me to a book she found very helpful. "Blue and Yellow Don't Make Green" is on order..
Thanks Carole!

Jan 12th 2009

Well, here is an example of my own work. Not nearly as compelling. But on the other hand it is one of the best landscapes I have ever done. I did 2 small paintings this past sunday. I am excited that I have found a way to work and learn.

Sunday Jan 11th 2009

I LOVE this composition. I wonder how Carol's studio is set up to beable to work a composition like this. Copying it is easier -- of course. Here I realized among other things, I do not have the right kind of paint to capture the vibrancy that she is able to capture in her work..(I think :) )

I like this.. I find I am excited to keep doing more, which has been a challenge for me. Partly the basement is freezing, so I am not so inclined to want to hang out down there.

Jan 10th Post (Late)

This is the 2nd image of Carol Marines, that I took a study from.
I may try to find that image to post as a comparison. I bet seeing them next to each other will help me see more of what I missed.
I love painting.. I just never know what to focus on. I thought this approach would help me understand color and form and especially composition. I think Carol has an amazing sense of composition.
You know how you play tennis with someone better to get better. I am copying her work because I admire her style, composition and sence of color SO MUCH>

It's a new year with a promise to post

I have been trying for years to stay consistant and committed to my own art.
As life would have it I get consumed by my career to make a living, never giving nearly as much time to what I want to do vs. what I feel I need to do.

I am working a 2009 being a new start to my renewed promise to myself.
